Hi, I have upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10 2 months ago and everything was working fine until a couple days ago. The button to turn wifi on/off when you open tab from notification tray is missing, there is only flight mode button and network settings. And no wifi connections shown. I have tried enabling/disabling wifi device in device manager with no luck. When I go to 'change adapter setting' from network and sharing center it shows bluetooth network connection (disabled); Ethernet (enabled, network cable unplugged); Wi-Fi (enabled, Not connected). If i right click it and choose connect it opens windows 10 settings where I go to network and internet and see Flight mode, Data usage, VPN, Dial-up and Proxy. If I remember correctly there was also a wifi tab before when it was working.
The only place I see wifi is under wireless devices in flight mode and still no connections. I have noticed that if I restart my laptop it will connect to wireless network for and will work for some time (5 - 10 minutes), but there still won't be any connections shown in the tab you can open from notification tray. Also, if I lock my user and go to network connections at lock screen it will show flight mode off, wifi on and all available network connections but if I try to connect it will fail.
WiFi connection. Here are some of the ways to fix Mac Wi-Fi problems and prevent them from dropping connection. Disconnect USB and Wireless Signal Devices. Click “Network” from the newly-opened window.
I have updated wireless adapter drivers but that did not help. I have deleted the VPN I have used before, but it didn't help either. Lastly, I have noticed that if I mute sound and shut down the computer I won't be able to unmute it as it somehow disables the device so I have to enable it first. I am not sure if it is related in any way, but I had my wifi disabled for a week or so as I do not currently have internet at home so I only use it when I am at the university, but now it just won't work. I have also just noticed under problems in security and maintenance that 'Host process for windows services' have 'windows update installation problem.
Also there is windows connection manager which has problem 'stoped working' and it's faulting application path: C: Windows System32 svchost.exe I have already tried all of the basic stuff, but any help will be appreciated. Best Regards, Titas. Hi, Thank you for posting in Microsoft community.

My laptop is ASUS N550JK. I had some error while upgrading to Windows 10, but I was not alone and I sorted it out. Also, everything was working fine for 2 months agter the update. I get that error message in Control Panel- Security and maintenance - there was some yellow tab where I could see unsolved reports or something like that (I clicked to solve them and it is gone now, but not solved).
I cannot completely turn off my antivirus (bitdefender total security 2015), but I have tried to disable all protection and firewall and that di not help. I have also tried to boot in safe mode with networking, but the problem was still there. As I said I have installed the latest drivers. They are for windows 8.1 as there is still no windows 10 version, but they worked before so I can't see why they shoul not work now. Method 2: I have already tried that, even though I did not have the problematic VPN installed before and that did not help. As of audio card, it is still working fine so I don't need to fix that.
I just tought information could help as problems seems similar (not working after turning it off, leaving off for some time and then turning back on). Could it be something with svchost.exe?
Could it be that it did not update properly and now I can't use wifi? If so, how could I update it manually? Any other suggestions are welcome too. Best Regards, Titas. Those examples are both trying to use the Modern UI.
Try using the Control Panel equivalent. FWIW that is the only way that I got it to finally save my connection password.
I didn't bother trying to diagnose why it wasn't working but I suppose if you were interested in trying to do that you could try using ProcMon, e.g. Expecting to see a RegSetValue being done in the registry about it (though I'm not sure if that is the implementation for this).

At the same time you could add some appropriate netsh trace requests, not because anyone knows what they do or how to interpret them but in order to try to break up the ProcMon trace hopefully somewhat more informatively. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle. This is not a problem for not saving wifi password. Nevertheless, did you try using the Control Panel to solve your symptom? I was just giving my example to show that there are obviously bugs in the new (aka Modern) UI that can be avoided by using the old CP GUI. In fact, maybe you will find that there is really some equivalent netsh or PowerShell command syntax that would be better. In any case, I am still expecting someone to figure out how to use netsh wlan reportissues to good effect (assuming it actually exists and does something as useful as its name suggests).
The button to turn wifi on/off when you open tab from notification tray is missing, there is only flight mode button and network settings. And no wifi connections shown.
In case it helps clarify your configuration, I'm wondering why you see 'Flight mode' and not 'Airplane mode'. Your Taskbar shows your Language is set to En-US but I'm wondering if that is what your Windows version is too? FWIW I think there are bugs associated with the feature (whatever you call it). For example, I originally thought it was just a means of quickly disabling/enabling all wireless support (e.g. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in my case) but there are obviously more quirks associated with it than just that. At one point I had Wi-Fi working while Airplane mode was supposedly set! No idea what implementation that would have implied but I imagine it was just a presentation bug.
Therefore, if I was in your situation I would be flipping the bits in whatever way I could find in whatever combinations were possible, hoping that eventually I could find a configuration that looked sensible and worked as expected. Good luck Robert. What happens when you turn Airplane mode on? FWIW I simulated your symptom by disabling the Wi-Fi adapter and then turned Airplane mode on, then enabled the adapter, turned Wi-Fi on. Then could see the Wi-Fi button in both the Notification tray and in the Modern UI Taskbar view of Networking. Then I turned off Airplane mode and can now still see both buttons in the Modern UI Taskbar view of Networking. Is that what you wanted?
Seeing Wi-Fi there and not one of my connections indicates that I am not connected via Wi-Fi. What is surprising in my case is that I am shown as connected using the connection I usually think of as my Wi-Fi connection but obviously (somehow) it is really only happening via the real Ethernet cable. I didn't realize that could happen and still want to understand how or what it means.
To do that I would use PowerShell or netsh or wmic or netcfg (etc.) I think it could be a waste of effort to do a Reset unless you could prove that there is really something wrong that a Reset would fix. So far I imagine all you are seeing is quirks that could just as easily recur after your Reset.
What I would be trying to do first is understand the quirks and find workarounds for them. What about dual-booting instead? Have both a clean partition to show you what it might be looking like and your current one that you still can't get working to your satisfaction.
In fact, that is probably something that I should be trying to do try to understand my Hyper-V VM Networking problem better. Thanks for giving me the idea.; ) Robert.
